Dog Days and Labor Day

Inside: Bark at the Park, dog swims, apple picking, library upgrades

As we approach Labor Day, it’s appropriate to thank local DPW workers who have worked tirelessly to assist with flood clean-ups. In just Bayside alone, public works crews conducted nearly 300 special pickups and collected 224,960 pounds of storm debris through special storm damage pickups. In addition to pickups, 74,390 pounds of storm debris have been added to the village dumpsters. And that’s just one North Shore community.

We thank these men and women behind the scenes that keep our communities running, and wish them all some well-deserved time off this long Labor Day Weekend.

Know the North Shore: Library Solar Upgrades

Recently, Mequon’s Frank L. Weyenberg library completed a solar panel project thanks to Arch Solar’s installation of a 98.865kW rooftop solar panel system. Check out these photos to see what the panels look like courtesy of drone photos taken by the Arch Solar crew.

Coast Guard-approved life vests are welcome, and the city ensures safety rules are in place for both furry swimmers and their families.

North Shore History: 75 Years of St. Monica’s

Archbishop Samuel A. Stritch blessing of St. Monica's basement church

The original St. Monica church in Whitefish Bay was a barn, which was converted into a worship space. A new worship site was created in the basement of the school in 1928. In 1939, construction began on the present church, built in the Southern Italian Romanesque style, and was fully completed in 1955.

The founding pastor was Rev. Peter Dietz, who was an important figure in the organized labor movement of the time. In fact, one of the four bells in the bell tower was given to Rev. Dietz by the City of Cincinnati, Ohio, in gratitude for his efforts in settling a police and fireman strike in their city.
