Free February Adventures

Inside: New North Shore Library, free museum and zoo days, summer camps

We're into February now, and if you're feeling the winter blues, this week's lineup of family events is the perfect antidote. From indoor adventures like a FREE museum day to outdoor celebrations like the FREE zoo day, there are plenty of ways to shake off the cabin fever and make some memories with your crew. Here's what we're excited about this week.

Know the North Shore: Signature Sweets

Local baker Kimberly Adams has been building jaw-dropping, gravity-defying illusion cakes for years. Now the rest of the world gets to watch again. The Netflix Is It Cake? featuring Kimberly’s creations debuts tonight on Netflix, and we’re celebrating with her Q+A on what set life is really like, how she keeps calm under a timer, and why the secret to “wow” cakes is rock-solid structure and nerves of steel.

North Shore Library is OPEN!

As of this week, the brand new space for the North Shore Library in Bayside is OPEN. There’s still more to be done before the March 14 grand opening, but starting now families can enjoy the spacious new library home. Families will appreciate include a drive-thru window for quick pickups, cozy reading nooks throughout, and significantly more study rooms for tutoring and homework. Here’s a preview.

Free Museum Day

The days are numbered when you can still walk the Streets of Old Milwaukee or see the T-Rex chomp into a stegosaurus, with the Milwaukee Public Museum packing up exhibits one by one this year. See the sights while you still can — now for FREE. Head to the Milwaukee Public Museum for a free museum day during Kohl’s Thank You Thursday, which takes place the first Thursday of every month. Get general admission to the permanent exhibits with timed entry tickets available between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. See it now - before it goes extinct!

Free Zoo Day

Speaking of free admission, the Milwaukee County Zoo is also hosting a Free Zoo Day on Saturday, Feb. 7. Admission is free for all guests (parking and regular attraction fees still apply), so bundle up to catch cold-weather favorites like snow leopards, caribou, Bactrian camels, Japanese macaques and harbor seals. Mark your calendar for all the free days in 2026.
