Know the North Shore: Great Pumpkin Festival 🎃

The Great Pumpkin Festival is set to enchant visitors a week from today — Wednesday, October 22 through Saturday, October 25 at Old School House Park, across from the library. Running nightly from 6-9 pm, this glowing autumn wonderland is complemented by live music, a variety of treats, with Jack Pandl’s Whitefish Bay Inn offering spooky favorites. North Shore History: Shorewood Turns 125

I
125 years ago, the village of East Milwaukee (later Shorewood) voted to incorporate in 1900. With barely the 300 minimum population for a village, President William McFarland (a farm manager) and the trustees started with modest goals. One of East Milwaukee’s very first ordinances limited residents to keeping “no more than two pounds” of dynamite at home—passed alongside early rules about building plank walks and having midwives and doctors record all births and deaths.
