This year, Pink Umbrella Theater Co. brings programming to the JCC’s summer camps in Whitefish Bay. Inspired by sensory-friendly theater, the company has been a pioneer in accessible theater experiences in Milwaukee. Summer berries are here, and local farms are opening their U-pick raspberry fields for families. In Southeastern Wisconsin, raspberries typically ripen by mid-summer (often July) and continue into fall. We have a guide to farms within about a 30–45 minute drive of Milwaukee’s North Shore where you can pick fresh raspberries. Enjoy!

North Shore History: The Kilbourntown House

Kilbourntown House in Estabrook Park
The Kilbourntown House is a hidden historical gem that offers visitors a rare glimpse into Milwaukee’s early days. This beautifully preserved structure, built around 1844 by pioneer carpenter and builder Benjamin Church, is one of the city’s oldest surviving homes—and a striking example of Greek Revival architecture.
In 1938, to preserve its historical significance, the Kilbourntown House was relocated from its original site near Fourth and Court Streets to its current location in Estabrook Park. Thanks to the efforts of the Milwaukee County Historical Society, the Milwaukee County Park Commission, and the Colonial Dames of Wisconsin, the house was restored and reopened to the public on September 4, 1939.
Today, the Kilbourntown House operates as a historic house museum under the care of the Milwaukee County Historical Society. While it’s not open daily, guided tours are often available seasonally or during special events. The interior is furnished with authentic items used prior to 1865, offering a fully immersive experience into 19th-century domestic life.
Visitors can walk the surrounding park trails and enjoy the peaceful setting of Estabrook Park, then stop by the house to appreciate one of the few remaining physical links to Milwaukee’s early pioneer days.
See you out there,
