Time for a Winter Break!
Inside: Sugar Maple tapping, full moon sound bath, fish fry season

Before we dive in, I want to make you aware of a referendum proposal in Whitefish Bay that would pave over one of the last remaining green spaces in the village. Today, Armory Park is a tree-lined open field that supports multiple activities at the same time — from T-ball leagues to teenagers hanging out in hammocks to dads and kids playing catch. Learn more about what could happen to this beloved park!
Know the North Shore: Winter Break

But once the holidays pass and the cold settles in, the city can feel like it slips into hibernation. Kate Pociask started Winter Break Milwaukee to push back. Winter Break Milwaukee is her free, inclusive community festival designed to help people get out of the house and back into community without needing to be “outdoorsy.”
And her story is nothing short of incredible: She underwent heart surgery to correct a congenital heart defect, and while hooked up to morphine, she told loved ones, “I’m throwing a winter festival.”
“I don’t think they believed me because I was also talking a lot of morphine-induced nonsense,” she said. “But about 100 days after heart surgery, in February 2024, I threw the first Winter Break.”

Maple Sugaring Season Kicks Off

This Saturday, Feb. 28, Riveredge Nature Center in Saukville hosts Family Tapping, where your crew can help kick off maple sugaring season by actually tapping trees in the sugarbush. It's hands-on, it's outdoors, and it's one of those quintessential Wisconsin experiences every family should try at least once. This is just the beginning — Wehr Nature Center's beloved 46th Annual Maple Sugar Days follows on March 7-8, and the big Riveredge Maple Sugarin' Festival lands on March 14. Get on the Riveredge calendar now before spots fill up.
Fish Fries are back
it’s the season of one of southeastern Wisconsin’s most dependable social institutions: the fish fry. Here are North Shore favorites to consider and the best fish fries in the wider area.
Full Moon Sound Bath

Celebrate the full moon with an evening of deep relaxation at the Jewish Community Center's Full Moon Sound Bath on Tuesday, March 3rd. The community is invited to a transformative experience that draws on Jewish wisdom and the healing power of a sound bath, guided by the energy of the full moon. Each month, a different theme is explored, honoring the peak of the lunar cycle—a powerful time for reflection, release, and deep awareness. $25 Members / $30 Community at Harry & Rose Samson Family JCC.
