Know the North Shore: Trick or Treat Street
Shorewood just approved something new for Halloween 2025: a pilot program to close part of Morris Boulevard to traffic during trick-or-treat hours. The one-year test will turn Morris between Capitol and Olive into a pedestrian-only zone, with barricades and safety checks in place so kids can collect candy without dodging cars. A neighborhood block captain will organize the closure, coordinate with residents, and work with police to ensure everything runs smoothly. If the pilot goes well, it could become a model for more family-friendly, car-free trick-or-treat blocks in the future.

A Decade of the Ghost Train

For a not-so-spooky but fun way to get in the Halloween spirit, check out Shorewood’s enchanting Ghost Train. You can find this artistic sensory experience at the Oak Leaf Trail Bridge over Capitol Drive. Since its first appearance on Halloween in 2016, this public art installation has delighted families by creatively blending history, technology, and community spirit. The best spots to view this display include outside on the patio of Culver’s or Corner Bakery on Capital Drive in Shorewood. Or you can time your bike ride or walk on the Oak Leaf Trail to feel like you are on board the Ghost Train. See the complete schedule of operations.

North Shore History: The Ghost of Sister Sixtoes
I
The most famous North Shore ghost story belongs to Concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon, where students have reported encounters with Sister Sixtoes for over four decades. According to campus legend, when the School Sisters of Notre Dame sold their Mequon property to the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod in 1982, one devoted nun refused to leave her cherished home. Campus lore holds that one elderly nun remained behind in the chapel until her death, unwilling to abandon the only home she had known.
